Hello, hello everyone!
Maggie here with a quick & easy gift you can create for any paper lover!
As a part of her latest paper collection, Magnolia Jane, Heidi has included some super-cool DIY notebooks you can assemble in any way you’d like…
…all you’ll need is a few pieces from the collection and about 10 minutes!
For my notebook I’m using:
- Both the Kraft & Floral DIY Notebook Covers. I’m using Kraft for my back cover, and the gold-foil dot for my front cover.
- Tab inserts
- Both the Kraft & White paper inserts…just to change things up a bit.
- Black coil
- Cinch machine. Now, because the holes are already punched in the notebook covers & accessories, the Cinch is optional. But let me tell you…having one makes it soooooo much easier to bind these notebooks.
I started by putting my notebook together in the order I wanted it to be…I usually work from the back of the notebook and stack up my papers/tabs/envelopes.
For this notebook I stacked my papers as follows:
- Back cover
- Kraft paper
- Tab divider
- 1/2 White paper
- Tab divider
- other 1/2 White paper
- Tab divider
- Front Cover
Once my notebook was in the order I wanted, I was ready to add the coil.
If you’ve never used a Cinch to bind a book before, it’s really easy…but there is a small learning curve. There is a special way you need to stack the papers on the coil before you close it in order to ensure you’re notebook stays together.
Start by layers all of your inside papers, in order from front to back, on the coil.
Next, add your front cover…front side up.
Then, add your back cover…inside back cover up.
Tuck your coiled notebook in between the closure bar and press the coils completely to the back of the machine.
Then press down on the handle firmly.
Move your back cover around to the back of the notebook and voila! You’ve got yourself a beautiful notebook in no time at all!

I chose to add a few embellishments to my notebook before I give it as an Easter gift…
Then I just added a length of seam binding, a Magnolia Jane tag and a little acetate floral bunch, and my little book is ready for giving!
The DIY Notebooks are the perfect gift…and, because you can put them together however you choose, they can be a completely personal & unique gift, too!
And, if you’re looking for another fun idea using Heidi’s Magnolia Jane Collection, make sure to check out my newest class at Big Picture Classes, Where We Live!
Here’s a little run-down on the class:
We take photos of EVERYTHING, our kids, our spouses, our pets, ourselves, places we visit–even our FOOD! When was the last time you took photos of your home? Your living room, dining room, kids’ rooms–as they are, right this very minute. In Where We Live, Maggie Massey will show you how to create a story-focused photo journal of your home. She’ll guide you through every step, from sizing and printing photos, to ideas on how to maintain your journal, to ways to adapt your journal to fit YOUR life. Our rooms and how we live in them are such huge parts of our story, and it’s time we document them.
In this class we use the Magnolia Jane Photo Journal to document our homes…I hope you can swing by BPC to check it out!
