wood album banner…for every occasion!

HELLO< and happy Tuesday!

SO, “practical” is not the first word that comes to anyone’s mind when describing me… but the fact is that practicality eeks out of me where it can! for example… as i mentioned yesterday… i am not really a ‘shoe’ girl… i like to buy shoes that i can wear with EVERYTHING (like black converse). i realized that this feature of my personality comes through in my product design. i like to make stuff that you can use OVER and over… and products that can be easily mixed and matched!   Today…the practical Heidi loves this project! it’s clever and pretty… but it’s PRACTICAL! go miss maggie! :

One of the coolest things about Heidi’s products is their versatility. So it really wasn’t much of a challenge to come up with something fantastic when I was asked to create a banner from the new Color Magic Wood Albums (available at Michaels Craft Stores).

I grabbed both the Heart Wood Album and the Star Wood Album and set to work. My daughter’s birthday is coming up later this month so I wanted to make a birthday banner…but I have two boys as well with birthdays this summer, so I wanted to make sure they got a banner, too – and, oh yeah, there’s always the 4th of July and Valentine’s Day that could use a little dressing up. So here’s what I did…

Wood Album Banner by Maggie Massey for Heidi Swapp

I started by taking the front and back of the Heart Wood Album and the back of the Star Wood Album. I covered the backs of the albums with the polka dot on teal paper from the Sugar Chic Paper Pad. Then I used the teal Beautiful Songs paper from the same paper pack to cover the front of the Heart Wood Album. Next, I inked all of the edges of the wood covers with a chestnut brown ink.

I fussy-cut some flowers from the floral page in the Sugar Chic Paper Pad, adhered them to the front of my center board, added a Color Magic Fabric Flower and the “sparkle” flag cut from a sheet in the Sugar Chic Paper Pad.

For one of the back covers I attached the teal chevron note card from the Sugar Chic Paper Pad to the center, added the “enjoy everyday” note on top of that (also from the Sugar Chic Paper Pad), and then added some banner pieces from the Photo Clusters embellishment.

For the other back cover I made a little “Happy Birthday” flag from the Color Magic Party Banners (sprayed with a light coat of Gold Lame Color Shine) and the Color Magic Chipboard Alphas (sprayed with Mustard Color Shine). AND there’s something fun about this little flag…

I attached it with a magnet so that it can be used on another project (which you’ll see in just a minute…).

And I can easily replace that “Happy Birthday” flag with something else for the time in between birthdays!

I quickly threw together a Colorful Instaframe, a Definition Sticker and a photo of my kids (and added a magnet to the back!) to take the place of the flag…

For my daughter’s name, I used the inside pages from the Wood Albums…I notched the bottoms, added a piece of mint green striped paper from the Sugar Chic Paper Pad, and cut the letters from the cheetah print paper (also in the Sugar Chic Paper Pack).

I strung all of the pieces together with Color Magic Seam Binding

NOW, I mentioned that I wanted to make banners for the boys and for other holidays, too, right?

Here’s how I did it…

I simply decorated the BACK sides of all of the pieces above…easy peasy, right?

Here’s my banner for the boys…(using the front cover of the Star Wood Album and the back sides of the back covers)…

I used another magnet, and now I can just attach the “Happy Birthday” flag to this side of the banner…I LOVE this!

For this side of the banner I used elements from the No Limits Paper Pad, as well as some Color Magic Stars (sprayed with Mustard Color Shine).

I can add the little Instaframe photo to this side, too!

I used the back side of the pennants that I used for Kate and added Gray’s name with No Limits Paper and letters cut from the yellow chevron paper in the Sugar Chic Paper Pad. I used two more inside pages for my other son’s name…Ty.

AND…I reused the back sides of the heart and star boards to make these…

…a 4th of July wall hanging (I sprayed this side with Tropicana Teal Color Shine and embellished it with Color Magic Stars left unsprayed. Then I sprayed some Color Magic Letterbox Alphas with Sweet Cherry Color Shine and added a Definition Sticker)…and

…a Valentine’s Day wall hanging! I sprayed the board with Sweet Cherry Color Shine, added the “love” Chipboard Sticker, some more pieces of the Photo Cluster banners, some Color Magic Hearts (sprayed with Primrose Color Shine), and 2 Definition Stickers (“now” and “always”), cut down to just single words.

So what do you think?!?!? Two wood banner sets made ALL of these banners!!! Isn’t that just so awesome? Seriously versatile products…

This is what I have hanging in my kitchen right now…just waiting for Kate’s birthday so I can replace the photo with the “Happy Birthday” flag…

And ONE MORE THING…when I’m not using any of the banners they are easily stacked and stored with just the ring binders that the albums came with!
