are you ready to take a look at Lindsay’s version of the challenge!? ok, so by now you have seen the fabulous project that was featured yesterday right here that was created by Maggie Massey… these two amazing artists used all the same stuff to create their projects! ok… prepare to be amazed… this is one of the most beautiful projects EVER!
This month I had the amazing job of being able to celebrate and play with the PHENOMENAL Sugar Chic 12 x 12 Paper Pad that is (just one of many) incredible Heidi Swapp products now available at Michaels and on sale this week for 40% off! Seriously, SO fun. This collection is full of everything you could ever possibly want! Glitter, flowers, stripes, chevron…it has it ALL. Yesterday you were all able to see how with just 1 paper pad and a Heidi Swapp wood mini album, you can create projects that are completely polar opposite of one another! Maggie Massey ROCKED out an amazing BOY album, using what one would initially think upon first glance is something more targeted to girls and “girly projects”. So awesome right?!? You would never know just by looking that Maggie’s album came from the same exact paper pack that my album today came from too!
Here are the items Maggie and I had to use for the challenge:
*The Sugar Chic paper pad (on sale this week at Michaels for just $11.99USD!)
To begin, I used the Color Magic Heart Wood Album. I love these albums for SO many reasons. They transform incredibly with Color Shine, they are sturdy, fully customizable and can be altered to suit the exact project/theme/idea YOU are wanting to convey. I decided to take this album and have some fun with it. What I did was instead of using the cover as my “cover”, i actually used it as a page within my album and because of it’s sturdy surface, added some interactive pages on top of it. It is really the perfect base for this type of idea.
I used a variety of papers from the Sugar Chic paper pad. I cut my pages to various lengths so they had a “fotostack” feel to them. The first layer to my album is actually cut from the cover of the paper pack. I love this floral design, so I fussy cut it out trimmed the width accordingly and added it as the first element to the album cover. I then layered pieces and pages one after another. I added a Heidi Swapp Color Magic Chipboard Star misted with Primrose, and a Color Magic Arrow misted with Black Velvet. I simply placed them through the book ring through their openings and they are really cute dangling elements. I also added two of the Heidi Swapp Color Magic Notes to the cover. One misted with Primrose, the other with Gold Lame. I layered some of the banners from the paper pack behind them using some foam tape to add additional dimension. On the piece of mint green paper, i actually added a piece of vellum on top (to soften the colour even more) and then added a strip of the diagonal detail from Heidi Swapp packaging to the bottom. I mean…who DOESN’T LOVE that stripe detail? It’s awesome…
On the 6th layer I added some extra embellishments and details. I added some Color Magic Seam Binding Ribbon around one key ring simply tied in a bow.
I printed some photos of my cousins GORGEOUS girls and cut them to about 2 x 3 size approx. I hand cut a pennant banner out of the black and white chevron paper and then laid the photos on top. I also added a Definition Sticker and a Color Magic Banner Delight misted with Primrose Color Shine and adhered across the top. I finished off the simple page with the Color Magic Chipboard Alphas misted with a combination of Primrose (first) and Gold Lame (top coat). The end result is a magical coral pink. I’m obsessed.
On the actual “cover” of the wood album I added some Black and White Striped paper over top that i adhered with some double sided sticky tape. I then finished off the edge with a banner hand cut from the Sugar Chic paper pack embellishment page.
I placed a 2 x 3 photo behind the heart cut out. I then added some more Chipboard Color Magic Alphas to the cover along with a Color Magic Chipboard Star misted with Primrose. Again, really simple but I just adore the combo of black, white and floral. The already made decorate edge to the wood base also adds such a cute element and just look at how with ONE coat, it just drank up the Black Velvet Color Shine. NOTE: I sprayed the covers with Color Shine first before adhering the paper and embellishments. Front cover and inside back cover were sprayed with Black Velvet, the front inside cover and back outside over were sprayed with Sweet Cherry.
This album also comes with 6 white cardstock blank pages which is perfect to get you started on creating a gorgeous mini album! They also serve as fabulous templates if you want to trim and cut additional pages to place inside. The fact that this album has key rings provides endless opportunities in creating your album. You can add just photos in various sizes, patterned paper, memorabilia, notes, letters, cards, etc with a simple hole punch! Endless…right?!?
On this page I used the mint green striped paper trimed to 4 x6 size as my matting on top of the white cardstock. I then layered a Color Magic Note sprayed with Black Velvet, a hand trimmed banner from the paper pack embellishment sheet, a large pennant I hand cut from the floral sparkle paper, a definition sticker, black epoxy letter, Chipboard Color Magic Alpha and Black Velvet misted chipboard arrow. I had tons of fun playing with the elements and adding additional dimension using foam tape (SO fun). I then added a favourite quote in my handwriting beneath the photo.
This next page again, more layering! I used the black and white chevron as the base and this time added some Color Magic Banner Delights misted in Primrose and Gold Lame, a Primrose Color Magic Note, more chipboard stars misted in Primrose and Black Velvet, black epoxy stickers and Primrose Color Magic Chipboard Alphas.
More inside pages:
On this page, I used the fussy cutting technique to add some of the Sugar Chic florals as additional embellishments and adhered them with foam tape.
On this page I added 2 photos and just again, had fun layering the different items and elements. It is really amazing how with a simple set of supplies you can create so many different looks and ideas on the pages. That is also one of the brilliant things about Color Shine…with just a few bottles you can customize SO many elements to truly represent and showcase your overall feel, color scheme and theme of your book! Make it to fit YOU and the story you want to share. It really is a blank canvas just waiting to be filled with memories and moments of what YOU want to celebrate, document and remember. Projects should always be a reflection of you, the artist. It is YOUR life after all!
I really hope that Maggie and I were able to deliver some inspiration to embrace the blank canvas and inspire you to create a project that celebrates that special person, moment and time in your life! Embrace the concept of making it your own and truly looking beneath the surface to create a project that truly reflects your ideas and vision. These wood albums from Michaels are AMAZING for that (as well as the paper pack!). SO excited for you to get your hands on one to make pretty stuff!
