The Power of Crafting and Connecting | National Crafting Month
“The beauty of crafting is that there are endless possibilities for creating and for stepping outside your creative comfort zone.” ~National Today Blog
It’s National Crafting Month this month of March. Which fits perfectly as we transition from one season to another. Maybe our crafting should take a little shift too. After all, we are two + months into the ‘new’ year. Our initial intentions may not be working out. Perhaps we have allowed life to swamp us with busyness. Therefore, it just might be a good time to reconsider crafting and what it does for one’s soul.
It just might be a good time to reconsider what it is about crafting you loved in the first place. Connection anyone? More on that in a minute.
The blank page is always a bit of a scary place, no? What if I make a mistake? What if it doesn’t turn out right? What if I ruin the page?
Well, here’s my little solution for that: use a journal, like the Journal Studio Insert found here in this image. And if you make a mistake (which is exactly what I did while preparing this assignment) then turn the page. Yep. It’s that simple. Like a creative friend once told me, there are two sides to paper. How awesome and forgiving is that? Just turn the page and try it again.
It’s sort of like life.
An aspect of crafting that we could not have known about a few years back is how it has connected us all over the globe. A friend in Florida can have purchased a Journal Studio Kit, plus these Color Fresh Stamps, then she will post a project in a Facebook group or on Instagram, and then I am connected to what she has done. I may even be inspired to lift her project. Or actually just get the stamps back out of my stash and simply enjoy a session of creative play.
I have been a crafter in what seems like forever. Even in elementary I was dabbling in photography and hand lettering (we called it calligraphy then). Whether we are storytellers, or card makers, or ever blooming stamp artists, there is an awesome opportunity that someone out there will connect with our craft with a “Yes! Me too! I totally get you!” That’s the beauty of this crafting hobby. There are so many ‘I get you’ moments that connect us and then subsequently, spur us on to further create and discover and then share.
Just one reason to not be afraid of the blank page. It can be hard putting yourself out there. But there is always someone who can relate to just what you create.
The effort that crafting is not only helps us move out of our creative safe zone, but it almost always connects us to others. The simplicity of a scrapbook page, or card or art journal is amazing. We all get it. We all get that sometimes we need to reset. We need to turn the page. We need to remember the beauty that crafting brings our lives as we connect within a hobby we love.
