A Farm House Christmas
My sister’s farm house is all decorated for the season and it is in Heidi Swapp style! I collaborated with Becca to give her home some added marquee to her farm-house decor and she was all for it! (who wouldn’t be?!) It is a lot of fun to decorate in a style not your own! Her navy and burlap with cotton sprigs had me excited to get started.
I have my sister to thank for teaching me how to decorate a Christmas tree. She use to decorate Christmas trees, for work for a huge charity event, years ago. Every year, she does a different design using the same color scheme. Yet, with the recent move into the farmhouse, she was excited to change up the color scheme. She switched out her colored ornaments for navy and grabbed a roll of navy and burlap ribbon and that was it!
This design is stunning when you walk into the room. The gathered design on the one side keeps the tree simple, yet elegant. The balance of gold with natural elements like feathers, cotton, and burlap keep the farmhouse feel!
To make the 4″ Heidi Swapp Marquee Love Joy Banner, I watched this how-to assemble video by Heidi first. Before assembling, I removed the inserts and then spray painted the letters gold. After they were dry, I put the inserts back in and wrapped the bottom half with aluminum foil to protect as I used craft spray flocking to the bottom. Spray more than you expect because after it dries the flocking “shrinks” a bit.
I then added the bulbs and strung the lights. They are stunning.
It was easy to hide the white wires of the banner. We just bent the branches along to keep them hidden.
Some of the vintage inspired touches balanced the rustic and glam perfectly.
The Heidi Swapp wooden star was a perfect touch for the tree as well! It could be painted if you wanted, but the raw wood was a perfect farmhouse look! The copper lights come in the kit and are easy to wrap the star.
Here are some of Becca’s tips to get that farm-house look!
-Place your tree trunk inside a basket.
-Use plaid wrapping paper to add to the look.
-Decide whether to use silver and gold in your design. If you already have decor in these colors, use them! There is no need to purchase everything new!
-Add little elements to your tree that give that farmhouse look. 2 deer antler floral picks were used and 2 cotton picks! The look is stunning!
-Find smaller inexpensive picks to add to the look on a dime! Sales are on these all the time.
-Limit yourself to a budget every year. $15-$20 can go a long way to add to your farmhouse look year after year.
-Add rolls of ribbon to help give the look you are going for! Just remember to keep the two balanced. Becca has the exact number of each represented.
–Keep in mind items that are not usually around during the Christmas season. A rustic garland can be found in your craft store in the floral department during other times of the year!
–Lastly, change a look easily with 1 or 2 boxes of colored ornaments.
A big thank you to Becca for opening her home and sharing her space with us! You can find that farmhouse look at your local Michaels store including the exclusive 4″ Marquee Love Letters and the Marquee Love Star.
