back to school classroom tour with Marquee Love
Welcome to my classroom!
Many of you may know that in-between my creating for Heidi I also work full time as a Kindergarten teacher! What I love about these two professions is how I have been able to combine my love of teaching with my love of all things Heidi Swapp in my classroom. In particular I have flooded my room with with a variety of Marquee Love letters to create signage for different learning areas in my classroom.
As you enter my room you will find my first set of Marquee Letters that spell out the name of my class Prep J. In Queensland Australia Kindergarten is known as Prep so I spelt this out with the 8 inch letters.
I have a bit of a Dr Seuss theme in my classroom so I downloaded some Dr Seuss papers from etsy, printed them off , traced around them with the supplied template and placed them into my letters.
Around the outside edge I combined some of the 2 inch Washi tapes in stripes, spots and glitter for a fun effect. I remember the first day my new students entered the classroom and saw the sign they were definitely excited!
Next to the Prep J letters sits one of my favourite places in my room, a place to celebrate the students achievements. Each day I choose a Star student of the day and they get to show off their work on a special stand and place their photo on the sign. They love to watch me switch on the 8 inch star which lights up their work. I spray painted it yellow then added some glitter paper on the inside and 2 inch glitter tape around the edge.
The light is attached to my glass window with two large 3M hooks. It simply rests on the hooks and is easy to take on and off.
The next area in my room I want to share is my class library and ABC center.
This is where I keep some my activities for my literacy groups. My ABC Marquee letters mark out the spot for this area.
I covered the inside of each letter with pattern paper from the 8 x 8 paper pad, i love the mix of bright patterns, adds another fun touch to my classroom.
Around the outside of each letter I added contrasting 2 inch tape. Spots and stripes are the perfect combo!
Every few weeks I have an author study in my room and I gather all the books from the library that the author has written. I used another set of Marquee letters that spells out READ on top of my book shelf.
I spray painted each letter with the bright bold colors then added some coordinating pieces of pattern paper on the inside to add more brightness to my room.
Recently I added another fun idea to my classroom. I used the Marquee speech bubble to house our sight word of the day. I used an American Crafts White Galaxy marker to write the words “Today’s word” on the speech bubble. Each day I can easily change out my sight word as it is attached with blue tac!
My lightbox has become a staple in my classroom decor too. I like to switch out the words and letters frequently with different themes and topics. Currently I use it to share our daily timetable!
The newest addition to my room is my celebration of learning area!
On my windows I have a place to hang my students special work. I laminated some colored Bazzill cardstock and hot glued a glittered peg to the top to each to easily slip in their work. I then added in some banners in front of the window to really draw attention to this area!
I began with that fun Celebrate Banner from the Celebration in Lights Celebrate Kit.
I then added in that chalkboard arrow, writing the word Learning in the same White galaxy Marker as before. I printed off an apple on my laser printer and ran it through my Minc with some red foil and cut it out and glued it to my arrow before hanging.
I added in a couple of the Star lanterns to really add to the Celebrate effect hanging them at different heights. I love walking into my classroom every morning it is such a bright, fun and happy place to be!
I hope you have enjoyed my little classroom tour. Teaching really is the best job around, knowing you are making a difference in your students lives is the reward in itself!
