day three

day three

I thought I would get a couple photos of this sweet baby connor posted…it’s been so nice to bring him home. We are all just so in love with him!  I think that Capri has finally realized that connor is a force to be reckoned with. He has a bottle and a blinky just like her, and she is just not sure why everyone is making such a big deal about him! Lol! She is pretty concerned… she wants to touch him, but certainly doesn’t get the concept of  “‘soft’…  Colton was sitting by me, holding him as he is fast asleep, and colton said ‘I forgot how boring Capri used to be…”  totally, the kids love to play with Capri so much cause she can really PLAY! She is so much fuN! …
Connor had a few hours of awake time today- which is exciting! He has been a total power sleeper! He is so sweet… so calm! He doesn’t cry… or at least he hasn’t yet. I am sure he’ll figure it out!  but he wakes up in the night, and just kicks his blankets off and kind of makes grunting noises… but no crying! He’s just happy to be here!
Man, so am i!!
I am feeling so much better. I have been totally taking it easy!
I am not a breast feeder… I went through hell with the first 3 kids… did the whole guilt feeling, and was just miserable for the first 2 or so months of their lives… casue I felt like that was expected of me etc… I gave that up with Capri! Went straight to the bottle, and that was the best thing ever for ME! (and for everyone… the big fight is who gets to feed baby!) anyway…so I am bottle feeding Connor, which makes me happy, and makes him happy! And I know just how much he’s eaten and it doesn’t take 2 hours! … since it’s day 3, I am starting having major pain as the milk is thinking it’s supposed to come in… so sore! So I have been doing the cabbage routine! It worked like a charm w/ Capri.  So they are starting to feel much better! I am sure it will be sore for a few more days!
So for now… I am so sad that my family doesn’t live closer! It will be a couple weeks before we’ll be up in SLC to show him off!

Congratulations, Heidi and family. Your new little one is gorgeous! It was nice to read about you bottle feeding. I’m home on maternity leave with my third child and bottle feeding this time around, too.
I still don’t know how you do it with all the kids, the business, etc. and look so great doing it all!

Heidi – Conner is absolutely adorable; another gorgeous Swapp baby!! Hey, don’t feel guilty about not breast feeding — no kid ever grew up and was a changed person because they were/were not breast fed!!! I breast fed my kids and it worked for me, but it doesn’t work for everyone..whatever you’re comfortable with…if the mommy is happy, the baby is happy….they can certainly feel your vibe!! Enjoy! ~Cathy

Welcome home! Such a beautiful baby boy! Glad to hear you are all doing well. There is such a wonderful feeling of comfort when you get home from the hospital. All is right with the world minus the lack of new baby sleep. But enjoy this too. The Swapp family of 7 is a lucky one!
Best wishes. Looking forward to all of Connor’s future blogs!

He is handsome. You shouldn’t feel guilty about not breastfeeding. I tried with both of my girls initially, was frustrated. I decided to do what’s best for us and then I switched to bottle feeding. Both are growing up well and healthy.

Hey we are playing the same game right now. I gave birth on June 27th, just 10 days ahead of you. I am doing the breastfeeding and man it’s painful even with baby #2. It’s finally getting better now that my little guy is 2 weeks old. Keep posting those beautiful baby photos. You give me lots of inspiration and it will be a great reminder to keep snapping those precious photos. The babies grow so very quickly. Wishing you a good night’s sleep soon!

He is so precious! He is just so perfect…enjoy snuggling with that little cutie!! We did the bottle thing too and when my youngest was born(Cami), my middle(Charlie) was 11 months like Capri and Charlie would steal Cami’s bottle and run away with it, if I put it down to burp her. We called him “Swiper” (from Dora)…we have pictures of him in the hospital holding the little infant bottles. Looking at Connor makes me want a new baby – you guys are blessed, so glad he is healthy!

Congratulations! Now you are making me question if I am really done with 3 kids!
I breastfed them all but not for long – with the 2nd one I only lasted 4 weeks and felt incredibly guilty when quitting. I was looking up all kinds of stuff on the internet to make me feel even worse.
After #3 last July I was okay with stopping at 6 weeks. I wasn’t breastfed at all and in the end we all turn out fine 🙂
    Congrats again!

Oh Heidi, he’s absolutely beautiful! You are one lucky mamma to have such a sweet, precious family like yours! CONGRATULATIONS again, so happy for you that he’s finally here. No one should EVER feel guilty to decide to bottle feed their baby….I’ve tried both (have 3 kids)and chose bottle feeding over breast for MANY reasons. People make you feel so guilty for bottle feeding, but I know deep down inside it was the BEST for me, my babies and my family and it’s really the LOVE you give and have for your child that is THE MOST IMPORTANT factor, not whether you breast or bottle feed. Hope your resting well….looking forward to more pictures of him!

He is so sweet < I can almost smell the new babyness! Makes me want a little boy! (im due in OCtober and we will be surprised) Good for you for not feeling gulity about breast feeding! I had a horrible experience with my dd and pumped for 4 months I will try it again with this one but I think it is most important to do what works for you. and what makes you happy! Enjoy these newborn moments, as youknow they are gone too quickly!

Precious pictures. Thank you for sharing. I too, am a bottle feeder. The milk coming in is painful, but I think since other people get to feed her, they’re able to bond with her too, and that’s important to me.
My new one is two months Saturday. I forgot how quickly they change. Congratulations and I look forward to more pics!

    Congratulations Swapp family!!
How adorable little Conner is. I am 8 days and counting till Ryan’s arrival. I too am a bottle feeder, like you we live pretty busy lives here in Canada and it always seemed like the right choice for us as a family. Like one of the comments read…you shouldn’t feel guilty because it really is the love that you give a child not the type of milk that matters. So, congrats again and I will also ask for your epideral trick if they can do that here, ’cause it is so darn hard to be having a contracion and be all hunched over to get the needle at the same time. uh. Hope you get some rest soon. God Bless.

welcome home and congrats again heidi!! conner is absolutely, incredibly gorgeous!! i can understand why everyone is so totally in love–he’s perfect! you are all so blessed. enjoy these precious moments as they fly by all too quickly! also, so nice to hear that someone i admire so much not breastfeed. i’m a bottle-feeder and felt so guilty with my first, but my son is a healthy, happy, 6 year old, so the decision to not breastfeed my daughter came much easier. i think it’s up to every mom to decide what’s best for their baby–and no guilt should ever be felt for their choices!
enjoy that precious, sweet bundle of baby love!! 🙂 can’t wait to meet him at CE!!

CONGRATULATIONS! He is possibly the cutest baby boy ever! I also wanted to say that I think you ROCK! I awarded you the Rockin’ Girl Blogger award and you are way to busy to go see why so here is a snippette
“This is Heidi Swapps blog. She is a big star in the scrapbookin world! She ROCKS because not only does she have awesome scrappy stuff but she has HELLA kids, a hubby, a busy life, a GREAT scrapping line (did I mention that 😉 and her blog is so positive! She balances everything she has going on and maintains that outlook that I strive for everyday, and that POSITIVELY ROCKS! I totally get that no one’s life is perfect, but it’s her outlook that comes across on her blog that makes ME feel more positive! I love that! and I think it’s pretty ROCKIN’!”

What an inspiration you are to women everywhere, scrapbookers or not! I am blessed every time I read this blog… I too went through the guilt thing with breastfeeding and have always wondered why as women we support eachother’s decisions except when it comes to breastfeeding. Thanks for empowering women with their right to choose in all aspects of their parenting!
And he is just so darn cute!

what a little cutie Conner is. i was the same as you struggled to breast feed with my first three so when it got to 4 & 5 I thought hey i want to enjoy the process and the bottle feeding allows me to do this. Do I feel guilty? not now and especially since a friend of mine found some research showing that some women are missing an important trigger in their brain which has to do with milk supply…i just thought this was great!!! Totally sorted my guilt out!!! 🙂 You enjoy these precious moment bc they go too fast….my youngest is now two.

Ladies – I found this about cabbages:
Why does cabbage work as treatment for mastitis, and painful breasts when breastfeeding?
    19 May 2007
    From New Scientist Print Edition.
I am a midwife and a mother, and recommend using cabbage leaves for swollen, painful breastfeeding breasts, milk suppression and mastitis. I tell affected women to line their bras with the cold leaves. It seems to work, but does anybody know why? Could the same treatment work for breast cysts?
Cabbage is part of European folk medicine and has been described as a poor man’s poultice (see http://www.bmj.com/cgi/content/full/327/7412/451-c). If there are controlled trials of the healing power of cabbages, they are not easy to find – Ed
Cold cabbage leaves will have the simple effect of a cold compress, and reduce heat in the same way as a cold flannel might (but without the drips). However, the beneficial effects of the cabbage are increased if you heat the leaves, by running a hot iron over them or by blanching in boiling water, before applying. The heat releases various anti-inflammatory chemicals as well as phytohormones. Leaving the leaves in the bra will have a slow-release effect as the body warms them and draws out beneficial chemicals.
Hot cabbage poultices have also been used for sprains and strains and to draw out splinters. I used the above remedy to treat a breast abscess (a side-effect of mastitis) resistant to antibiotics. Greek women used vine leaves for the same purpose. It would be interesting to find out if the leaves have the same chemicals in them.
    Vivienne Tuffnell, Lowestoft, Suffolk, UK
Cabbages are members of the Brassicaceae, a large and diverse plant family. Among many other chemicals, brassicas produce glucosinolate compounds, one of which, sinigrin (potassium myronate), gives rise to the pungent smell associated with cooking cabbage.
In the presence of water and the brassica enzyme myrosinase, sinigrin forms “mustard oils”, which are noted throughout history for their healing properties when applied as a poultice. Crushed or chopped leaves are applied externally as a counter-irritant to ease swellings and painful joints and to cleanse infections, and a warming sensation can be experienced in the skin. Mustard oils can lead to blistering, however, so must be used with caution.

Really darling boy you have! I am exactly the same way about breast feeding and was 1,000 times happier the day I stopped with my first baby. Enjoy your family!

congratulations on your new family member. I too bottle fed my kids – my milk never came in and it just wasn’t for me. I remember my OB telling me that 2 of his kids were bottle babies and 2 were breast and to this day he doesn’t know which was what. It isn’t like 2 are smarter or healthier or any thing else so don’t let anyone guilt you about not breast feeding! Just wanted to lend my support 🙂

I just want to add my congrats with everyone else. We are anxiously waiting for the birth of our 1st grandchild in October (I don’t feel old enough to be a grandma.) I too did the bottle feeding after 2 weeks with my first. Who now is 6’8″ and the expectant Father. All the rest of my 3 other kidletts were bottle fed from the start and they are no worse for the wear. And even Dad got to do the night feedings on the weekend.
Such a precious time in your household. And YOU look great too!

I’d been out of touch for a few days and have just seen that he’s finally here!! Congratulations, he’s beautiful and I love the name Connor (if my third had been a boy that would have been his name but we got Emily instead and I wouldn’t swap her for the world!). Continue enjoying your wonderful family as they get to know their new little brother. So cute!! Congrats to you and Eric!

    Congratulations on your new baby!
Thank you for sharing the fact that you bottle feeding this baby. Both my kids were/are bottle-fed, but trust me I felt sooo incredibly guilty with the first one. Most mothers do not want to talk about giving their kids a bottle and so I really appreciate you writing about this in your blog.
I love your products especially the flowers & tape!

Heidi, Bless your family for such a perfect addition. You are a great artist, teacher, and woman. I am taking your AYTR course this year. I am just so amazed at how down-to-earth you are. Sharing slices of your life during our weekly classes. You make women feel okay about being imperfect. I wish the best in life for you, your husband and your beautiful children.

Oh Heidi, he is so beautiful! You are truly blessed to have such healthy and beautiful children! I am so glad you shared your breast feeding story. I was not able to breast feed as my milk never came in, (which I guess is really rare) so with not even having the option I really felt like I was letting my baby down with all the “pressure” out there to breast feed. I did get over it by the time my second was born, but it is nice to have someone like you reiterate that it is totally okay to bottle feed your baby, and yes, in fact they do turn out all right. You are right on when you say that you have to do what works for YOU! Thank you for all of your inspiration and “realness” you share with us! Take care of yourself and that beautiful baby of yours!

Gorgeous baby boy, it makes me want one until I remember those sleepless nights! I wanted to chime in with a me too on your breastfeeding comment. I too felt so pressured to breastfeed that I gave it the old college try. The nurses at the hospital didn’t even discuss with me any other options I had inverted nipples (who knew?) and was in so much pain. And even though I feed my son for hours at a time he was still hungry an hour and a half later and skinny as he could possibly be. After 3 months of exhaustion I finally decided to pump and only then did I figure out I wasn’t producing enough milk to feed him properly. Nobody even discussed all those other issues and problems with me. I Always felt like a bad mom for not having it work out. Boy did I feel so much better getting out that formula and feeding my son in a quick 30 minutes and having him gain weight and be happy. That was three years ago and until I read your comment I thought I was the only one who felt so pressured and worthless for not being able to do my montherly duty. Thanks for not making me feel like a loser. Good luck with the babies, I only wish I had your energy!
