DIY DOORMAT I HOW TO CREATE A MULTI COLOR MAT
Hello friends and welcome to another holiday DIY!
Today is all about the Heidi Swapp DIY door mats, and they truly are the perfect accessory for any home this holiday season.
I am sharing a little twist to the normal DIY door mat application process, so here we go!
To create the look I am sharing today you will need the following supplies:
To begin, lay the stencil atop your mat. I chose this stencil (which unfortunately is not avail right now in the shop), however this technique is perfect for all the the other holiday designs available in the shop right now.
I love and appreciate this technique I saw Jamie Pate do, which is to tack on your stencil using stick pins. This really helps in the application process so the stencil does not shift about.
Once complete, time to paint!
I chose to go for a fun holiday ombre effect, but you can also just use one paint color if you so choose. I could not decide so I chose to use all 3.
The key I find in the paint process, and why the flat brush is so important is to get your paint all on the bottom flat part of the brush. Then just pounce flat on top the stencil so the mat fibres get penetrated. This technique will serve to give you the most coverage.
Once complete, remove your stencil and voila! How fun to add in to any decorative space for your home. I love the frosty feel the white gives alongside the red and green. Reminds me of a candy cane.
So if you are looking for some holiday DIY to do before Christmas officially arrives, this is certainly a great idea. Not only is it fun to do, and super easy….but they make great gift ideas too. 🙂
