diy fall frame | gallery wall
How many times do you hear yourself saying after persuing Pinterest…”I can do that!”?
Don’t you love that DIY spirit? So much I do. There are so many things to do and create. My home and how I decorate reflects a lot of who I am. And Pinterest may or may not be a little part of that. Heidi’s Gallery Wall Collection has only embellished that even more for me. She’s made it so easy.
Needing a mantle piece, I grabbed one of the DIY Gallery Wall Frame Kits plus a couple of the Distress Kits…yes, I said a couple, and went to work. I had a vision to make that plain white frame a little bit more special.
Have you played with the Distress Kit yet? For this frame I started with the Gold Distress Kit. The kit includes a darker and a lighter color. The darker went on first. And then I sort of dry brushed the light gold paint over that.
But then I took the white paint from the Whitewash Distress Kit and also dry brushed and added more to the scroll work and crevices. A wet wipe aided in pulling a bit of the paint off if needed.
Frame Kit includes the Be Happy Color Magic insert. I used Tinsel and Gold Color Shine to give it sort of a marbled effect.
The last touch was to add ribbon and also leaves that I cut from an autumn leaf garland. Michaels Stores has these great Halloween Ribbon by Celebrate It. The one shown here is wired and made a perfect bow. It is hot glued over the leaves. The long grass is from our yard! It just worked.
So don’t be afraid to mix up those Distress Paint Kits. Something is too gold, add touches of white and customize it perfectly to meet that DIY impulse you have.
Supplies: Heidi Swapp Gallery Wall Collection available at Michaels Stores. Ribbons and leaf garland also available at Michaels Stores.
