Documenting My Favorite Quotes | Journal Studio

I love clever quotes.

Love them.

You know the ones I’m talking about, right?

The funny, witty, sarcastic posts on IG and FB that make you laugh right out loud or nod (shake?) your head in agreement?

Yep, those.

I bookmark or screenshot those quotes constantly, but I’ve never taken the time to document them anywhere so that I’ll always be able to look back and enjoy them.

Until now.

I grabbed one of the new Heidi Swapp Journal Studio Journal Kits and decided that this is where my favorite sayings would now find a home.

Each kit comes with 2 journal inserts…I chose this one to use for this project.

I created a “title” page using some HS washi tape & pieces from Heidi’s Journal Studio Ephemera pack.

And then I grabbed one of the coolest tools around to help me decorate some of my pages.

This is the We R Memory Keepers Magic Journal Reflector.

It helps people like me – who can hardly draw a stick figure – draw like someone who actually knows what they’re doing!

So, this is one of my journal pages…complete with a darling little potted plant.

A potted plant that I, all by myself, would never have added to my page because I can’t draw a lick.

But, with the Magic Journal Reflector, adding these fun designs is possible!

Yay!

I’ll get to the rest of my journal pages in a minute, but I want to give you quick rundown on how this amazing tool works.

The reflector itself is simply a piece of special reflecting plastic you stand up in a little holder.

You place your phone on top of the little holder and the image from your screen is reflected onto the paper on the opposite side of the reflecting plastic.

Let me turn the lights down so you can see the image better…

See?

You look through the plastic from the right to the left (or left to right, if you’re right-handed) and trace over the image you see.

So cool, right?

And We R Memory Keepers even has an IG account – @werjournalreflector – packed with a ton of images you can use in your projects!

This tool is SO AWESOME…and it’s taken my journal pages to another level…but I’m not gonna lie – IT TAKES PRACTICE.

Here are some tips that may help you when using the Magic Journal Reflector:

NOTE: These are things that I found helped me…you may find that other tricks help you more…just keep practicing and you will find what works best for you.

  • Turn the brightness on your phone down a bit, and work under not-so-bright lights. I found that the reflected image was much clearer if neither my phone nor my working lights were super bright.
  • Turn the auto screen shut off on your phone off…it’s SUPER annoying to have your screen turn off when you’re in the middle of a drawing.
  • I found that propping up the paper/page I’m drawing on with using a few magazines really helps me to see the reflected image better and makes it look like it’s actually lying on top of my paper.
  • Use a thicker pen to make your tracing. The designs just look a lot better when they’re traced with bolder lines. (Thanks to Jen Evans for this one!)
  • Remember – anything you draw will be reflected at 180 degrees…so plan accordingly.
  • PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE

OK…now back to my pages…yay!

For this one I simply typed the quote onto a tag from the HS JS Ephemera pack & added a few strips of washi tape.

You’ll see that I added patterned paper opposite each of my quotes in this journal. I love the color and design they add, and they help to cover up any pen/marker bleed-through from the previous page.

The gold sticker at the top of the tree on the opposite page is from Heidi’s Journal Studio Sticker Book…and I LOVE the way it looks up there.

Here’s another place where I used the Magic Journal Reflector.

But to get this image, I Googled “taco coloring page.”

Bet you didn’t know that even existed, did you?

Thanks again to Jen Evans for recommending coloring pages as a fantastic source for traceable images!

And another little reflected image appears on this page.

Also, this quote is so me.

Just text me.

For real.

I decided to go a little fancier on this page – so I pulled out my favorite Kelly Creates brush pens.

My hand-lettering still needs a lot of work (and practice!), but it’s fine…I’m not sweating it.

And that’s what I have so far!

I’m so excited about this journal.

I’m also excited to start deleting some of those saved quotes from my IG archive…that thing is so darn full…

Thanks so much for taking a look!

I hope I’ve inspired you to jot down some of your favorite quotes, too!
