Easy Memory Keeping
There has been so many times I have been asked why I put so much time and effort into birthday celebrations. Children are so young and I have been told, “They won’t even remember it.” There is nothing farther from the truth. The best memories I have as a child are waking up and excitedly running into the dining room of our home, no matter where we lived, and it being decorated with balloons and streamers for my birthday. My mom made it a tradition and it has never left me. My children, however, will always know how we celebrated their special day because I always take photographs and document it.
The new Photo Journals make documenting moments and events even easier! The journal comes bound with a place to put your 4×4 photo in the inside pages along with a sheet of stickers to decorate or prompt your journaling.
I had no idea that it was going to be so fun. The hardest part of scrapbooking is figuring out where the photo is going to go and with that part done for me I just enjoyed playing! I was able to journal, stamp, and add stickers to my heart’s content!
What I love is that this album can be as simple as sliding pictures in and writing what happened in the photo on the provided lines or you can add a little mixed media!
Here is how you add a little mixed media to the pages:
1. Add a bit of gesso to the side of the page with a paint knife.
2. When completely dry, use watercolors to add a bit of color on top of the areas that has gesso on it.
3. Add floral stickers.
4. Use the stamps in the Embellishment Kits to add to the page.
5. Add your story
When planning a party or getting together with family there are always things that go wrong. There are always funny stories that are easily forgotten. Here’s a great story I wanted to document… My in-laws graciously let us have my daughter’s 3rd birthday at their house. So that I could photograph the tablescape, they let me come to their house early to decorate and take pictures. It just happened that it was at that time the weather turned and the wind started to pick up. My backdrop almost flew off the table and was so close to knocking the cake over. So, my father and mother in-law went behind the backdrop and held it there so I could photograph. The funny thing is that it started to rain and instead of being impatient they started to tease each other. It was kind of a conversation I could have gone without hearing (LOL!) but I am actually glad to have documented it here in this album for my daughter. No one else in the family saw all of what happened to get ready for the party. No one else knows about the silly grandparents joking while holding a huge backdrop in the rain. Especially since the rain stopped after the photographs and it was a 90 degree afternoon.
Just thinking of the two of them behind there makes me laugh and the laughter should always be remembered along with the bigger events like birthdays!
