Gallery Wall Project Breakdown - @MaggieWMassey for @HeidiSwapp

A couple of weeks ago I shared the brand new gallery wall I created with Heidi’s new Gallery Wall Collection found exclusively at Michaels Stores. I LOVE my new wall…it makes me smile every single time I walk past it. *(find that post HERE)

The colors and textures just make me so happy!

Today I’m going to go through the steps I took to create one of my favorite pieces from that wall…

…this beautiful ornate white frame with a striped mat and gold floral print. Oh man. I love this.

This piece actually comes as kit of sorts with 3 different parts: the white frame, the striped mat, and a piece of printed art.

One of the things I love most about these pieces is that they are entirely customizable. Yep! That’s right…you can color these pieces any way you like with Color Shine or acrylic paint! Let me show you…

To start, I disassembled my frame and gathered my supplies.

**NOTE: for my project, I decided to create a piece of art different than that which is included with the frame. I’ve saved the included print to use at another time.

SUPPLIES: The included striped mat, some black acrylic paint (from Heidi’s new Distress Kits), gold Art Screen Ink, an HS Art Screen & scraper, a foam brush, glass cleaner spray & washi tape.

First I created my art screen print, using one of Heidi’s new 8×10 Art Screens and gold Art Screen Ink.

When that was finished I moved on to the mat.

Now I know it’s almost impossible to tell from the photo, but this mat really is already striped! Actually, there are areas on the mat that will resist color…and that is what creates our stripes. It’s just like the rest of Heidi’s Color Shine-able items!

The really cool thing about this mat (and the rest of the Color Shine pieces) is that you can also use acrylic paint to color them! And that’s just what I did here with paint from one of Heidi’s new Distress Kits.

I simply brushed the paint onto my mat, allowed it to dry just a bit, and then used my glass cleaner spray and a paper towel to remove unwanted paint from the resist areas…easy peasy…and the result is these gorgeous, clean, crisp stripes…love!

After everything dried it was just a matter of re-assembling the pieces and hanging on the wall!

Like I mentioned before – I really just love that every piece in this collection can be customized. The only thing better than creating a piece of art from scratch is creating it to be completely perfect for your home.

Thanks so much for taking a look! Now go out and make some pretty stuff!
