gentle reminders

I’m up with a really sick stomach. I am not sure at what point along the way I am going to realize that I CAN’T do spicy! Didn’t’ seem to matter last pregnancy… this time, even the slightest bit of zip in any food, causes great regret a few hours down the road…tonight I felt immediately sick after I ate, and I decided to lay down. That was at 7:30…it’s now 1:30am and I am not really tired…but I don’t feel good. So it’s a good thing that I have tues, wed and thurs nights episodes of American Idol on my tivo… so I am just going to sit here under a quilt and veg.
I had an awesome productive day, and I am thankful for that. Today was the start of week 8 in my Big Picture ‘year to remember’ class. In preparation for March, I have challenged my class to focus on ‘counting blessings’… and truly being grateful. I am enjoying the process of this class, and I get the luxury of focusing on the things that I need to focus on in my life. Today was a perfect example…I had a little lesson in taking something for granted. It’s funny how, when I go through my days or my weeks, I tend to focus on the ‘unaccomplished’ side of my list, and not so much being happy or content and thankful for the parts of my life that are accomplished and running well. Rather than really being pleased about what is working… what I have covered…I get so broken down about the things that aren’t under control.
I think that joy and happiness in life comes from finding it; appreciating it.
There has to be a balance of finding satisfaction and enjoying… and then turning it on, knowing what has to get done, and doing it!
But there is no time for ingratitude. Definitely reminded of that today.
So, I took cory to basketball practice today, and instead of dropping off and picking up and squeezing phone calls and errands in between, I sat on the ground on the side of the court, at the park… in the sun (sorry if you don’t live in az, so nice today), and watched cory play…cheer for him a little. Regroup. while I was there, my girl scout cookies were delivered (didn’t know we ordered) nice surprise! It’s the little things!
Much to be thankful for, pleased with and appreciate the reminder.

Man, there are a lot of commercials in American idol. (love tivo) chuckle. I bet a coke would make my stomach feel better.

    I bet one with icy chips from your little pink fridge would make you feel so much better! Ugh… what pregnancy does to your body… (It’s worth it though, don’t you agree??)

    Heidi I know quite a few people that can’t handle spicy food when pregnant.
    If I ever had kids that would be a real downer as i am a spice-a-holic!!!!

    I couldn’t eat too much of anything while I was pregnant this time just past… very strange, didn’t matter what it was, but if I over indulged, we knew about it.

    I hear ya! I couldn’t eat anything with BBQ sauce my last pregnancy. BTW you should check out Ali Edward’s Blog…she mentions your “Year to Remember Class” and gives it a great review!!

    I used to get acid reflux w/my 2nd son. Try taking a pepcid when its really bad.

    Good for you for sitting down on the side of the Basketball court and just -being- ! Those moments of regrouping are the sweetest times, and hearing you describe yours takes me back to all the stolen moments I’ve given myself. We should all gift ourselves the “regroup” more often! Hooray for you…and I don’t think you realize just how much you DO accomplish! It’s a lot.

    I am so thankful for this weeks life challenge, Heidi…it truly is so easy to slip into thinking only of the things that we DON’T have and achieve, that we forget about all the blessings in our lives. I started my list and it is looooong…but i love it. Some things I am gratful for…my family, of course, my flat-iron, and yummy food! Can’t wait for the art challenge! Have a good day!

    Sorry you aren’t able to eat what you’d like with this one. Hopefully it won’t last that long. Thank you for the reminder to be thankful for what we have in our lives. I was going to suggest you NOT drink Coke; it might actually upset your stomach more and the caffeine isn’t that good for you or the baby – just a suggestion 🙂 Hope your stomach is more calm today! ~Tanya

    I am so thankful for this challenge…and my hubby is too! I’ve been so grumpy lately, so thinking about all that I have been blessed with and to truly be thankful has definitely helped to change my attitude. I needed the reminder to focus on the positive. Thanks!

    Hi Heidi!! I hope by today you’re feeling better. I gotta tell you, I tried your choc hip cookie recipe the other day and it turned out perfect!!!! I have been trying for almosts 9 years, (June 4th will be my 9 year wedding anniversary… ) we were hi-fiving each other dancin’ around the kitchen. Thanks so much!!!! Get better!!
