Halloween Lights DIY I Home Decor Shadow Box
Today I am SO excited to share a very simple, doable and SUPER CUTE Halloween home decor DIY tutorial with you. It literally takes NO time at all and I know will add instant WOW factor to your home this Halloween. Plus…it lights up! I know…awesome, right?!? Who doesn’t love stuff that lights up? Instant magic I tell ya ;).
OK, so let’s talk supplies:
In order to create this shadow box you will need to gather the following from the Marquee Love Halloween In Lights collection:
*Desired Marquee Love Halloween In Lights Shape
*Desired Marquee Love Light Garland Kit
*Wood Shadow Box
*Hot glue gun
Note that all of the supplies shown and used were purchased from Michaels Stores.
To create my shadow box I personally chose the Marquee Love Pumpkin and the Marquee Bat Garland (you can make this work with any shape/garland from the collection…they are ALL amazing!). Note that even though I am NO fan of bats in real life….I LOVE this garland! These bats are SO cute. I literally want to add them to everything!
Now…time to begin creating our Halloween In Lights Marquee Shadow Box. Let’s go!
Step 1: Assemble your Marquee Shape as per package instructions. What is awesome about the pumpkin shape is that it already comes with the glitter insert ready to go! No cutting or punching needed.
Simply place in the bulbs.
Next step add your light string and batteries into the battery pack.
The pumpkin marquee also comes with these fun glitter pumpkin face stickers.
Simply peel off and stick on!
Our pumpkin is now done. Let’s set this little guy aside and move onto prepping our shadow box.
I wanted to add a little bit more texture into the inside of this box, so I grabbed a package of this crafting moss. I thought it would add a fun and festive fall feel to my project.
It is really easy to use, but does make a bit of a mess so have a vacuum handy! To adhere the moss to the inside of my box I simply used hot glue. I applied the glue to the inside base of the shadow box and gently pressed in the moss. Add as much (or as little) as you wish. No rules here.
Once you are finished applying the moss, next up is to add the marquee light garland shapes.
We are only going to use a few of the die cuts included in the box. The rest of the lights we will leave as is. So it is your choice of how many of your desired shape you want as part of your project.
To adhere the banner and lights to the shadow box use a small amount of hot glue. I find this works best. Simply add the glue, adhere a piece of the light string (as shown below) and hold into place until the glue has cooled.
In the photo below you can see I added bats to both the outside and inside of my box. The bats that are adhered to the outer edge of my box were done by simply placing hot glue on the actual bats wings and then placing onto the box.
The remainder of the light string we are going to place on top of the moss. Add some additional moss on top of the exposed light string to conceal it using small amounts of hot glue.
Now we are ready to add in our Marquee Love shape. Note that my pumpkin did not need any extra or additional supports, it is simply just sitting in the box loose. I kind of like having it that way so that if I want to switch out my pumpkin with another shape I can.
Once you have everything assembled inside as desired feel free to add touch ups, additional accents or moss (like I did in the below photo) to conceal any exposed light string. I love this effect because not only is the light string concealed, but the lights still glow through the moss giving the shadow box a beautiful glow.
So…what do you think?
Super cute right?!?
You are now ready to place your Halloween Shadow Box on display for everyone to enjoy.
I love how beautiful and festive it looks all lit up.
So go and grab yourself some of these amazing Halloween In Lights Marquee pieces and get your Halloween craft on! I cannot wait to see what you all make and create.
