How It All Began
It may be an obvious thing to say, but the main purpose of scrapbooking and story telling and journaling is to be able to look back and remember. Remember by way of photos. Remember by way of words. Which is exactly what is at the core of today’s post. Looking back. Remembering. Then looking forward.
Today’s post is a look back at a beginning. And then, taking that project idea, and amping it up with a Sun Chaser spin. Have you been around long enough to remember Heidi Swapp’s Memory Files? Oh…how I loved that style of scrapbooking. It was such a fun way to layer in tons of photos and create plenty of space for journaling. You got a minute? Let me show you something.
This is one of the very first projects I ever made for the Heidi Swapp Media Team blog. This album is housed in a Mini Memory File. The patterns were absolutely gorgeous. The collection was called Vintage Chic. And look at that young thing on the cover? She had no idea what the next decade plus had in store for her. But lucky for her, she grabbed some monumental photos, snapped in a moment of time, and placed them lovingly inside this Memory File.
Inside I created a little back-to-back bound album. The papers too are Vintage Chic. It was simply a very fun collection.
Allow me to share with you how this album came together. I took key photos: me as mom, me as sister, me as wife, me as daughter, me as friend, and created a page spread for each of these photos. This became sort of my introduction to the new at the time Heidi Swapp blog and to the team. Obviously I loved this project as I still have it today. Could not be happier to have curated this story on these pages like this years ago.
Fast forward to 2022.
I wanted to recreate this project for the blog. Reflecting what it looked like from over a decade ago. This required me to hand cut a memory file. From there I replicated, for the most part, the inside pages of that original Mini Memory File to this diy’d Memory File. And I love it! Sun Chaser is decorating this inside and out. I used the Project Pad that is exclusive at JoAnn Stores for all the papers and the stickers and tags found on these pages.
It is a powerful thing to ‘re-do’ a previous memory album. As I would look back at the original project, and then move forward to create these pages, I was seriously lost in memory. So many little nuances came back to my mind. And that’s the powerful part, the road down a memory, even if there are not a whole lot of words, can move one’s heart in a most meaningful way. I recommend this exercise for everyone. Find an older project. Look for recent photos that reflect the photos from that album. And make it about today. With a serious nod to yesterday.
That’s how this wonderful journey into the Heidi Swapp Media Team began. And that is how today I am looking back. What a gift it has been to be able to make and create this way. What a joy to have so many albums and scrapbooks and pages filled with words and photos as well as pretty stuff. What a gift we have to tell our story. And with that, as always, I am here again to encourage you with as much exuberance as I can to tell your story. Remember for you where it all began.
