i heart this mini album!

i love seeing what people create using my products, and my jaw about hit the floor when i saw this one! Ranjini Malhotra is a member of the Pink Paislee design team, and made this gorgeous little heart mini for me to display in my booth for CHA!  I asked her if she would mind sharing it here on my blog, and if she would mind writing a little bit about her creative process… thank you so much Ranjini and i can’t see what else you create!!

heart mini book by ranjini

As a longtime Heidi Swapp fan, I was thrilled when I was asked to work with Heidi’s gorgeous Sugar Chic Collection! I knew I wanted to make a  mini-album using this stunning new line and decided to create this heart-shaped book. The book itself is from Apple Pie Memories, and once I got started it came together very easily.

The cover was completed by tracing the heart shape onto paper, then cutting the heart in half down the center before adhering it. I always like to cut with an extra “allowance” around the outer edges of the heart, adhere the paper down, then trim the overhanging edges away with a craft knife. This way, you really get a custom fit versus trying to cut the heart so that it fits exactly on the front.

I dressed up the cover with the label sticker, a glittered up initial and a Glitter Bow Clip to hold the folded note from the Sugar Chic Openables Package, which was one of my absolute favorites! The note folds open into a heart shape so that you can add a secret message! I love hand-dyed seam binding so I added some from my stash to the front as well.

When making a mini-album, I like to make my cover stand-out from the rest of the book, as that is the first page that the viewer sees and what draws them to open and view the insides. The Sugar Chic products made it easy to make a stunning cover. To highlight the papers, I added a pop of color and texture from the glittery wood initial and the soft seam binding, as well as the silvery Glitter Bow Clip.  It’s the mix of pattern, color, and texture that makes the cover pop.

As for the inner pages, my personal style is gently layered, but also clean and simple. I like to leave space for memories or notes to be added later, and was going for a clean and streamlined look on the inside without overwhelming.

The Sugar Chic Collection makes that easy to do with the selection of a beautiful background paper or papers, stand out embellishments and labels for journaling.  I followed this formula throughout the book, choosing papers, embellishments and labels to give continuity to each page. I also added lots of fun inserts like the mini notebook from the Sugar Chic Openables package and the Colorful Instaframes.

Heidi’s papers and products are so rich in color and beautifully coordinated that most of the work is done for you, it was easy to combine papers and products on each page of the mini-album with minimal guesswork.

The collection contains unique embellishments that are so much fun to use.  The Day-Glow Neon Tape was a favorite, I loved using it to adhere the heart from the Sugar Chic Stix package!

The Disco Hearts and Disco Stars sequined embellishments are color rich – a little bit goes a long ways, and you need so little to add a punch to your pages!

And all the little Sentiment Storage Envelopes and inserts are great little secret hiding spaces for heartfelt sentiments. The File Tab Label Stickers and Color Labels are perfect for journaling. I like to layer them and also like to position them on the edge of an album, trimming off the very edge.

I hope you enjoyed this project, and hope it inspires you to play with Heidi’s new Sugar Chic Collection, I know you’ll love it as much as I do!

thank you Ranjini! love this project!
