i've got a color fever.
Every season seems to be characterized perfectly by color! I gave Lindsay Bateman the challenge to be inspired by this beautiful autumn vignette… She created an amazing layout using the 3 most Fall-icious colors: Bronzer, Georgia Peach and Mustard Color Shine.just take a look at what she came up with…FABULOUS!
There is nothing that pushes me more creatively than colour play. I absolutely adore embracing, playing, using and experimenting with colours. Watching how they interact, how they coordinate and especially how they come together when using fabulous Heidi Swapp Colorshine. Colour play is where it is at!
My newest Heidi Swapp Media Team challenge is called Color Fever and my challenge was to use only the shades of Georgia Peach, Bronzer and Mustard Color Shine in conjunction with a set of inspiring images that reflected this colour palette. It was so much fun and the inspiration led me to create a layout celebrating not only these delicious colours, but also gratitude…and my love for Instagrams!
So much of my daily life is captured with my IPhone and with Instagram. I am constantly capturing experiences that I am having, meals that I am eating, and photos of all of the incredible inspiration and blessings that I am receiving. I simply cannot get enough and I love using these photos in my scrapbooking projects!
To begin my layout I started with a 12 x 12 piece of white Bazzill cardstock. I then used the Georgia Peach, Bronzer and Mustard Color Shine to mist a simple background onto the white cardstock. I had no direct plan in mind, I just randomly sprayed the 3 colours onto the background. I love this effect and how the colours appeared on simple cardstock. They just popped and shimmered beautifully without making my paper really wet or soggy. I will definitely be using this technique in future projects.
I knew I wanted to use my Instagram photos, but I also wanted to really play on the theme of celebration and gratitude so I decided to use a banner as my main focus…celebrating gratitude, my instagram images and these 3 beautiful colours of Heidi Swapp Colorshine all in one place. This is what came to be!
I created my banners using my Instagram images, Heidi Swapp Banners (that I cut out with my Silhouette using Color Magic paper and her digital Banner delights available from the digital shop), Heidi Swapp Sentiment Stickers and seam binding ribbon that I further personalized with Bronzer and Mustard Colorshine. I also purchased a banner die from the Silhouette online shop for the other banner shapes.
To create my tiny Instagrams all I did was print them at home using my Canon printer and the software that came with my printer. In the program, I printed my instagrams using the index card option and the 4 images per photo paper option. These were all printed onto a 4 x 6 piece of photo paper, which enabled the images to be downsized even further creating the teeny tiny pictures. They are so cute and really really fun to incorporate onto layouts and projects when they are this small.
I then began to create my banners and thought it would be really fun twist to add my photos into the banner. Since they were the perfect size they fit right in and I love the pictures strung as part of the banner alongside Heidi Swapp’s Banner Delights.
I cut out both the Heidi Swapp Banner Delights and Silhouette purchased banner die cut with my Silhouette using Heidi Swapp Color Magic paper and then personalized them with Colorshine. I love how the Bronzer, Mustard and Georgia Peach colours beautifully came together and showcased all of the different resists and shapes perfectly.
I adhered the images to my page and then ran my sewing machine across the top of the banners for an extra fun added detail. Once these were compiled, I added some of my favourite Heidi Swapp sentiment stickers to my banner, like a banner, as I trimmed the edges and placed them vertically. I love this added detail and the phrases. I still find my sentiment stickers to be one of my most used and #1 go-to embellishment when creating my projects. They are such a fun element and so universal! My finishing touch was using some seam binding ribbon that I misted with bronzer and mustard colourshine to the ends of my banner.
Using the Heidi Swapp Digital gratitude kit, I used the #gratitude cut file as my title, cut it out with my Silhouette using plain white card stock and then used Bronzer, Mustard and Georgia Peach to customize it. I love how all of the 3 colors combined beautifully on the title. I added a Color Magic note to the bottom of my page, with a Sentiment Sticker and a flag I made using a Heidi Swapp digital quote and printed it out on orange paper and hand trimmed. I simply added this detail to both the upper left hand and lower left hand corners of my page.
I loved creating this layout for so many reasons. It allowed me to creatively constrict myself in that it helped me not become so overwhelmed with options, colours and possibilities. I worked within a set framework which helped me to stay a bit more focused and really just enjoy the process and appreciate the elements that I was able to use. I also love how I used colours that I normally would not have been drawn to use on my own. This really helped to inspire me in new ways and push myself creatively. I also love how this particular project had me playing with Heidi Swapp Color Shine even more! I think the trick is to play, experiment and just enjoy what this Color Shine can do and what it can create and customize.
I really really encourage all of you to just pick 2 or 3 colors and allow yourself to get lost in them. Stay within a colour palette and just enjoy how it pushes you creatively and how inspiring it can be. Lastly, this layout had me celebrating one of my favourite things in the world ever…and that is gratitude.
I hope that this layout has inspired you to embrace a few colours, grab your Heidi Swapp Color Shine, play and make pretty stuff!
