Let’s Never Forget: The Power of a Photograph

Hello, National Scrapbook Day 2022

National Scrapbook Day with Heidi Swapp Sun Chaser | The Power of a Photo

It’s the most wonderful time of the year. National Scrapbook Day. Well. It’s actually on Saturday. But I have been celebrating all week. One cannot celebrate this creativity to much, I say.

This point of this post today is to bring to the light a very important part of scrapbooking. There is a serious message I want to share. And this just seemed like the perfect occasion to do just that.

But first, let’s grab a few things and chat real quick about the creative aspect. As Sun Chaser is making it’s way to the retailers, I have my hands on a few items and am going to put those to work on this Sun Chaser page layout with a very special photo.

From the Sun Chaser collection:
12×12 Paper Pad
Vellum Pockets and Tags
Puffy Stickers
Washi Tape

From the cut away 12×12 paper I clipped out the ‘wonderful’ to create this banner to be displayed across my page. Since I do not have a whole lot of embellishments at the moment, this was an easy way to make use of paper to embellish a page. I just snipped out the letters. Then punched tiny holes at the top. And strung silver thread through the letters like a party banner.

That banner now adorns this traditional 12×12 page layout. 12×12? Yes. You read that right. Not only did I pull out an archived photo, I also pulled out what I could remember from making a 12×12 page. It has been a minute. But here’s the deal: this photo is of some very special people in my life and it has a home in an album that is my more personal stories. And that particular album is 12×12. So. Embracing all things scrapbooking I also embraced a chance at a 12×12 page. It was truly a fun creative moment.

And that’s where the jist of this post comes in. The Power of Photos. (And by the way my dear friend Lindsay Bateman was not able to be with us at this occasion). This photo was taken in 2019. In Phoenix, Arizona. The last time us girls were all together like this in one place. Occupying one space. We had no idea at the time the challenges that were to lie ahead and the difficulty it would be for us to all be together again.

And that’s the power of a photograph. When I stumbled upon this image again, it really grabbed my heart. And this has happened a lot over the past 2 years…one just never knows what is going to happen and who is going to move away or become ill or what have you.

Photos are SO important. And we live in a time where they are so easily accessible. Yet how often are they still left on our phones? Can anyone resonate with this emotion?

At the risk of sounding melodramatic I wanted to make a point here with this post today in the midst of celebrating one of our favorite past times: scrapbooking. What a great time to reset. Renew. Re organize if we need to. And write those stories.

So. Grab a photo. Print said photo. And tell your story. Let’s never underestimate the power of the photograph.
