let’s read marquee love style
Give me a R-E-A-D…what’s that spell? Summer at the Pate’s. Yep. I got me a house of readers. If the kids are not in the pool. If they are not wreaking havoc in the neighborhood. If they are not at karate, then they are inside reading. We are a house of readers and for that I am so thankful.
So I have had this project in my head for a little bit now. To add the 10-inch Marquee Love letters to spell out read and add them to my littlest reader’s room. I love it when a plan comes together.
I really adore how this adds more character and interest to his room. He is all about the Marquee Love lights already. We use one for his night light. So this is just the bomb, in my littlest guy’s room.
But let’s refresh, or learn for the first time if that be the case, shall we?
Start with a Marquee Love letter. This 10′ R is so great. I love the style of letter. For this word I used the Marquee Love Rust Distress Kit.
The kit comes with two color paints. A dark paint. And a light paint. Start by painting the letter using the cutey little sponge brush and start with the dark paint first.
I like to start on the edges first. Just my way. But it does not matter where you begin. Just begin. I know it can be a little scary to put paint to that pristine white letter…but you really won’t be sorry.
After the outer edge is done, let it dry. Then proceed with the inside. Sometimes it can be a little tricky to get the very corners and inside edges. Just use a smaller brush to add paint to those places.
The coverage does not need to be heavy. It can be light in some places, heavier in others. This is basically what it looks like when done…ignore the middle of the ‘R’…I did go back and paint that part too.
After the dark coat is dry, time for the light paint.
Use the cutey little bristle brush for the light coat. You can see that it does not give complete coverage. Instead it creates this really great ‘rust’ effect, just like it’s suppose to.
Add this layer all over the darker color. Go heavy in places, lighter in some.
When you are happy with the results and the letter is all dry, add the bulbs and the lights…
And enjoy the results.
As a bonus, I have a video here for you to follow along for even a bit more insight into the process of Rust distressing a 10-inch Marquee Love letter.
