Today is your LUCKY day! … I have a BIG lucky FREEBIE & a chance to win!
Happy St.Patricks day… or as my kiddos call it: “Leprechaun Day”. I remember calling it that when I was little. In fact, I was pretty seriously CONVINCED that there were little bearded mini-men, but in my imagination they were more like fairies or something along the lines of ‘tom thumb’. I guess I don’t take it too seriously, but I do have fond memories of my mom dying the milk and the pancake mix green, and trying to hide my ‘green’ so that I could pinch someone back 10-fold if they pinched me!
now, it’s about holiday spirit! I even bought some green glittery eyelashes! It also provides a great reason to eat ‘green grapes’ and ‘mint oreos’ and slather my 30-min-rhodes cinnamon rolls with green glaze. PLUS, I just couldn’t resist the excuse to crank out some Yudu-ed t-shirts, create some thoughtful little gifts for my kids’ teachers AND make a mini-book! it’s just a cute, crafty kind of holiday!
My kids have a ‘dress code’ where they go to school, and today they get to wear something ‘green’ on top. Of course, we had to whip up t-shirts! Found t’s for under $4 at Walmart, and printed on the fronts and backs. My kids LOVE it when they get a new CUSTOM printed T. They couldn’t stand the wait!
And just because I do try to stay on their teachers good sides… thought I’d send in something just kinda thoughtful… sugary, caffeinated, GREEN beverage! (and some double stuff mint oreos…)
lucky day memory file project
And today I finished working on a project that I hope to get some input from my family on…I want to have each one of my kids to tell me why they are lucky (better yet blessed). It’s going to take some arm twisting from my older boys, but the youngest 3 are thrilled to contribute to my project!
Let me show you how I made this…it’s a super easy, and fantastic way to construct a book using my Memory files. On a holiday that is all about the color GREEN…what could be more perfect than COLOR MAGIC? You can make it ANY color… and especially green!
I started out by creating the title. I used my trick of cutting a .png file out on my Silhouette. (my tutorial here) My silhouette has become even more useful to me since I learned how to do this!! It’s an amazing tool and it makes me so happy!
I decided that I wanted to make a 9×9 book. Here’s what I used: 1 pc chevron Color Magic – cut to 9×9”; 1 black disco arrow; 2 labels (from instaframes and the file tab labels; 3 color magic folders – cut to 9” wide; 1 pc of Bazzill Clear paper cut to 9×9 (note: bazzill makes 2 weights of clear paper & I used the heavier); 1 color magic banner delight; I used 2 different colors of Glimmer mist: Blarney and bubble light green; And I used Private Meadow and Chandelier Glam (*remember that yellow and blue make green, so you might be able to make a great green by mixing.)
I misted everything, and let it dry. After I misted the title, I did put it under something heavy to really get it to flatten, and then I adhered it to the Clear Paper.
I adhered 2 of the folders wrong sides together for pages 1 and 2. The 3rd file folder will wrap from the back, and around to the front. I cut that 3rd file folder 1 ½” from the crease, and that is what I adhered the clear paper to, to create the cover.
I then adhered the 9×9 piece of color magic paper (in this case, the chevron) to the back of the ‘page 1’ folder. I am sure to add more embellishments and ‘stuff’ as I add photos…but this is just the basic construction. Really, you could add as many folders as you would like to grow this book idea.
I added a small piece I cut using my silhouette to the back.
ok… as I mentioned, it is your LUCKY day! just in case you have waited until the last minute to create a little ‘something something’…here is a little something that might help out! I have created a kit from some of the stuff I have been creating with today:
All for FREE!
1. The files for the Mtn.Dew bottle wrappers (you could add to water, or milk, or crystal light…?) I printed 4 up (I included the file cause I love you!) and I used packing tape to adhere to the bottles
2. if you have a silhouette…you could use the PNG files I have included to create cutting files by checking out this tutorial video. Otherwise, you can use the PNG files as normal digi files
3. I also packaged the 7 different elements I have been playing with today up as brushes for your crafting enjoyment!
Now, lastly… there is something that I just have to tell you about—you know that I love my Silhouette. I can’t even tell you how many people tell me that they have a Silhouette and have NEVER opened it! I will confess right now, it took me 3 weeks to open mine when I got it- I was intimidated and scared.
And guess who I called, and who walked me through learning, and taught me what to do: Kerri Bradford. She is the Silhouette Guru. She has put together a new class that she is teaching at www.jessicasprague.com that is called “getting to know your silhouette”.
I have checked out the class content, and I HIGHLY recommend it. it’s ONLY $19. And SO worth every penny. It’s a ‘class-on-demand’ and it opens next week. I am giving away not ONE spot, but TWO in Kerri’s class. If you would like to win, simply enter your name & email address in the form below. (If you want to be on my mailing list for future sneak peeks, etc, be sure to “tick” the little radio button below your email address. Otherwise, we won’t use your email for anything other than to enter you in the giveaway drawing.) I’ll be picking a winner at random on Sat night!
