Menu Planning MemoryDex
Hey everyone!
Maggie here with a look at a new project I’ve undertaken…my recipes and how I store them…
Over the years I’ve accumulated loads and loads of recipes…from family members, friends, cookbooks, magazines, the web – virtually everywhere.
And, unfortunately, this is the way they look. Just a big pile (this is about 1/10 of it!) of paper…of all different sizes and shapes…sitting in a drawer in my kitchen.
I’ve been known to frantically rifle through this stack…looking for one recipe or another I just KNOW is in there…often to be disappointed because I can’t find what I need.
But I’m ready to remedy this problem.
Enter, Heidi’s MemoryDex Collection.
Although the idea of a Rolodex is not new…one this pretty, with this many coordinating pieces, is.
And it’s awesome.
I started my recipe organization with one of the MemoryDex Desktop Spinners.
Then I grabbed two of the card kits from the collection…the Calendar Kit & the Recipe Kit…
…and I set to work .
I adhered the gold-foil stickers enclosed with the Recipe Kit to the tabs on the cards from the kit and added them to my spinner…
Then I typed out our favorite recipes (from cookbooks, magazine pages, scraps of paper) onto the blank lined cards from the Recipe Kit…
…and popped them right into my spinner.
Some recipes in my stack were already typed onto recipe cards, so, to include these in my spinner, I simply adhered them to one of the blank lined cards and added them to my collection.
I did that with some hand-written recipes as well…I want to make sure I keep those.
A few of my recipes are handwritten on larger recipe cards. I kept these just as they are, too…except, after adhering them to the blank cards, I simply folded over the top of the card and added it to my spinner. Easy peasy!
Next I added the set of Calendar cards to my kit to help me with menu-planning…something that is ALWAYS a huge struggle for me.
Now I can plan our weekly meals easily by simply moving the recipe card from its place in my “recipe book” to its corresponding week in my calendar pages. I’ve already planned two weeks! Honestly, it took me two minutes, and now I’ll have the recipes right there waiting for me when it’s time to cook!
I know this will be an ongoing project…but it’s one that I’m looking forward to .
AND, I’ve been able to throw away most of that recipe stack (yayayay!)!
Whenever I come across a recipe I want to try, I’ll simply add it to a card and pop it onto my spinner!
Thanks so much for taking a look! I hope I’ve inspired you to go a little retro…
