plum blossoms…

plum blossoms…

So yesterday Janet gave a little SNEAK peek on her blog
about the class that she is teaching in Dallas on Oct 17th (sign up here)…

I am
really excited to be teaching with Janet- she is an amazing teacher… and I will
finally get to meet her sweet new baby Blakley! I can’t believe that I have
never been to Dallas to hang out with her. In fact, I haven’t been back to
Dallas since I taught at Recollections and had the ‘drill in reverse’ incident…
She is using one of the fabulous House of 3 Heart shadow boxes along with some
of her favorite Pink Paislee papers! So, I think it’s only fair that I share a
little look at my project as well!

I can tell you this: I am TOTALLY addicted to alcohol inks.
(my name is heidi, and I’m an alcoholinkaholic..LOL ok, sorry).  So, I have been thinking and
experimenting and playing with them, and I am amazed it’s taken me so long to
give them a chance. Anyway… so these are just some of the products we’ll be
using on this project entitled “Time and Season”.

This project is about the NOW; it’s about documenting what
it is that make this ‘time and season’ beautiful, unique and focusing on the
best part.  (i still have a few finishing touches to add…)

I have always loved the
imagery of the ‘plum blossoms’ in oriental art… and when I learned a little
more about what the ‘plum blossom’ symbolized, I knew that I wanted to do
something that would represent that… in China, the plum blossom is the very
first sign of spring. Before any leaves are on the trees, and usually under a blanket
of snow, the flowers of the plum (more like an apricot I think) tree bloom and
defy the cold, and against all odds thrive in the worst circumstances.
Throughout generations, these little blossoms have symbolized ‘resilience,
perseverance in the face of adversity…courage and an undaunted spirit.’ I love
that metaphor, and as so many of us are facing changes and challenges, I think
it’s important to bloom beautifully despite harsh conditions… that is what this
project is all about!  We’ll be
using “clear paper” by Bazzill and the alcohol inks to create the cover… and the book is filled with
beautiful Scenic Route paper, i added in some of my clear extras and even some of my "invisibles" chipboard- i have been hoarding some just for this project.

I will be teaching this project in Dallas on Oct. 17th (a day to play);
in Great Falls, Montana on Oct. 24th and at the BRAND NEW ‘she
in The Villages, Florida on November 14th (about an hour north of
Orlando) how cute is this place? (teaching

and also right here in SLC on Nov. 15th at Heartfelt Creations in Sandy (801)233-9028.  EMAIL ME HERE if you
have any questions, or if you do not live near any of these hot spots…and would
like to request a kit and instructions. (kits for Janet’s class will also be
available for purchase, we are starting a list).
