When my father-in-law called and asked if my husband and I could help put together a surprise birthday party for my mother-in-law, we didn’t hesitate! My husband thought of a Popcorn Party plus BBQ because an Evans family gathering always calls for a grilled burger. Popcorn was a healthy alternative to keeping the kids busy while waiting for grandma to arrive. Plus, I knew it would be the perfect way to debut Heidi Swapp’s newest exclusive collection for Michael’s Stores called “Celebration in Lights!” It is the perfect way to celebrate any party, graduation, shower, movie night or celebration this summer! This collection sets this coming weekend!
*(This large black marquee comes with three inserts – Movie Night, Showtime and this plain black one where I added my own saying)
The popcorn party kit I used in this collection comes with invitations, the banner, popcorn boxes, and food labels/picks! Pretty much a party-in-a-box! The invitations have all the supplies needed inside the box so the assembly took minutes! While I assembled, my husband sat writing the text on the inside and addressed the provided envelopes. The card slips inside the cutest popcorn bag! Everyone loved the cards so much and I have to say that I got the easier job putting them together!
A couple of days before the party, I went ahead and finished the banner, which also came in the kit. I also added the new red and white washi tape to my Lightbox (also a part of the Michaels collection). The new Lightbox inserts are so great for this theme! My husband made sure that the Lightbox had “Mom” in it because, well, who doesn’t want to see their name in lights for their birthday?!! There is a new icon pack that has this darling popcorn icon, so of course we had to add it!
For our popcorn bar, my husband decided he liked popping it in the air popper right as people arrived. He had sweet, salty, and spicy to choose from and loved mixing bowls full. The family liked the idea too and they thought it was fun!
I wanted to make sure that I made a marquee for my mom to keep! So this Star Marquee shape is a special kit as well! This new kit has a banner to choose from in the box. I chose “celebrate” and then added silver number stickers from my stash, since it was her 60th birthday party.
Lastly, you can see the strand of star lights on the table. I love these!!! They are battery operated and have plastic clear stars. I can’t wait to try them for a night time party this summer!
Most of all my mother-in-law, Sharon, was surprised. The entire family was there and we had the most memorable time. While in the midst of preparing for her special day, my husband reminded me once again why we do what we do., “Family is us celebrating together. ”
