pros and cons of the snuggi
So Capri has officially graduated to the snuggli stage. She is more awake and really likes to be held… so I dredged that front pack thing out of my baby-archives…and tried to remember how to put it on, get her in, tighten the straps appropriately etc. she loves it. she is happily sleeping in it now.. I occasionally hear the little sucking noises from the binki…3-4 little sucks, then nothing. So cute.
Despite the fact that she is happy and my arms are free, I can’t really DO anything… I think it’s a little bit of a fallacy that you can put the baby in a pack and still get work done! You can’t see what you are doing- no writing, if you try to eat, you totally spill crumbs and stuff on baby… you can’t like pick up the house, you can’t really bend over- you have to bend at the knees, and then you can’t see what you are trying to pick up! And now that she is sleeping pretty soundly- I defiantly can’t take her out of the unit… I remember when I used this with my other kids, taking it off my body and laying them down in their beds still in the snuggli. The good news, is that I can type. So this time can be spent answering the 1.2 million unanswered emails. And maybe the ‘no eating’ is a good thing! I have a straw for my diet coke (thanks mom). And I guess I like having an excuse not to pick up the house. I still haven’t unpacked completely from CE… although I have done laundry. Today is the CKC Phoenix, and I am teaching at 3, so I should have something to wear!
Yesterday was spent at Bazzill for the ‘wrap-up’ meeting… the list of things for us to talk about was REALLY long! It was actually really fun to talk about everything. Kind of reliving the event. I was teaching all day both days so I liked hearing what was going on outside of the classes. We spent some time talking about different comments and I will admit, we took a little time to enjoy the happy emails that have been flooding all of our inboxes! I even liked talking about all the things we learned, and will do better next t
ime!
One of our goals for CE was to provide some residual exposure for our sponsors. We wanted to promote education… and we wanted to pass that education and good ideas on! in order to accomplish that, we created the CE show book. Attendees got the book that acted as class notes, and we knew that we wanted to send the book to retailers so that they could plan classes out of it to perpetuate the ideas (store owners know what a constant battle it is to come up with great classes-I have 600 women that will agree these are great classes!) and give further exposure to the sponsors involved! The book not only details every single class and project with step by step, instructions and how-to photos etc. but includes each and every item used on each project down to the size, color and item number so that retailers can order the exact parts and pieces for every project. in addition, there are organization solutions for each project contributed by none other than Kristi Sikora-Blankenship of Cropper Hopper (by the way, happy birthday yesterday kristi!) and details from Eva’s WORD class. If you missed out on CE this year… this is your opportunity to participate, and live the event vicariously! (the projects included are killer Christmas gift spring boards!) Also, there is this cool “trunk show” section that has a bunch of projects created by the teachers- just a little extra fabulous inspiration that you will love. (all it’s missing is a little bottle of stacy julian! You will have to find that on BIG PICTURE… stacy, could you just repeat yourself, so that we can download your talk and listen to it once a week?)
We are sending out complimentary books to Heidi Swapp and Bazzill retailers, and they will be able to order additional books to sell in their stores. This is limited edition…there are only about 5,000 available. So watch your LSS and your favorite online stores… and if you want to be sure you get one, maybe drop a line to your LSS owner and get your name on a list! Based on the response and interest we have rec’d…they will go fast.
Ok, so I gotta go peel this snuggli off of me and try to get in a quick shower before I have to head down to the scrapbook convention at the civic center. I am teaching a class on tape… I am excited, it’s a fun class to teach… we are using glitter… that rocks!
OH SERIOUSLY…
Just as I was posting this, she just puked right down my front… she was perfectly positioned… I guess another bonus of the snuggli! Wow, that was a lot of …..
Good thing I hadn’t showered yet!

15 September, 2006 at 1:34 pmOh, I SO hear you about the Snuggli thing. In my opinion…how terrible to tease a Mom that way with the thought of “free hands”??!! I did find, though, that the Baby Bjorn actually WORKS. You can actually take the sleeping baby out WITHOUT taking the whole contraption off. YES! BRILLIANT! Bad thing…it costs closer to $80 instead of $25. TOTALLY worth every penny, though.
Looking forward to the CE book! Glad you made it through the madness…and managed to have a a great time still! WTG! ;0)

16 September, 2006 at 5:26 amHI. I’m one of your blog reader… I’d suggest the maya wrap sling. Everything else was in my way too, until I got the Maya Wrap. If I needed to do something, but the baby was kind in the way… with the maya, I was able to swing him around onto my back for a little bit and do what I had to do then swing him back around in front. Worked like charm. Carried my 2nd son in wrap for almost 2 year and my last one for a year. It is really worth the $$ and there’s alot of different color to pick out. Hope that’ll give you some idea. I started them both out in the maya wrap. It is also easier to use when you’re nursing. I’ve been known to go to apple farm when my little one was just a baby and I was walking around and nursing him. no one even noticed.
Congrats on your little girl! She is such a beauty!

16 September, 2006 at 7:31 amsnugli is really good for going out, when you don’t have to do anything. but waht really works is something that goes on the back. my boyfriend’s cousin’t wife is from ghana and she uses fabric and ties the baby to her back. he stays ther for hours sleeps, wakes and then goes back to sleep. it works so well, and her hands are free for other things

16 September, 2006 at 8:35 amThe only thing that darn snuggli was good for with my kids was when we had to be up walking around a lot and then it made my back hurt. My kids always looked so squished in it too. I guess I wasn’t smarter than the darn contraption.
Congrats on CE. I hope to attend in the future.

Got the book at Scrapbooks, etc. today – who BTW was having a rockin’ sale (10% off total purchase and 20% off all Bazill and Heidi Swapp). I’ve flipped through it. Can’t wait to spend some good time in it. I plan to ask dh for CE for my birthday. Would be good for me to get away. You’re the bomb – HS!

16 September, 2006 at 4:26 pmyou’re still using a snuggli??? all i can say is BJORN!!! check em out on ebay.
and i LOVE the word Binki! such an american term, i forgot about it. some US friends had said it up here one time and i was like , “huh? what the heck is that?!” and they kindly explained. here, we call it a soother hee hee hee.
Heather
16 September, 2006 at 6:36 pmOh Heidi! I’m so right there with you! Given that my baby girl is 9 months, but I STILL use my BJORN all the time. I LOVE it! Gotta love those priceless ‘Mommy’ moments… 😉

16 September, 2006 at 7:58 pmHi Heidi — after being at CE I want to move to the Phoenix/Mesa area so badly…there is so much talent down there, so many great classes, teachers, etc., that I really feel like I’m missing out!! Any chance you could make it to Santa Barbara, CA to teach a class at Santa Barbara Scrapbooks??? We have an extra bedroom at our home!!! Not a bad place to visit!!!! Think about it :o)
Enjoy every precious moment with Capri in that snuggli — so delicious!….Cathy

17 September, 2006 at 5:48 amtry a hotsling (www.hotslings.com) for while she is still little and snuggly, and when she gets older, you can graduate to a mei tai (www.babyhawk.com). both are total lifesavers! At least, they have been for me for the past 7 months! 🙂
Pam
18 September, 2006 at 5:06 amI remember having to ask someone what a binky was too! In Canada they are soothers. Used to love my snuggli for when I went out walking or to the grocery store but I agree you can’t do things around the house with it very well. Now my kids are 16, 20 and 22 so it’s been a while. LOVE that book! What a great idea and we can recreate the projects any time, or make similar ones. Definitely an idea to use again.

18 September, 2006 at 11:54 amThanks for the giggle. It reminded me of my snuggli days. I have great photos of my sons sleeping on the couch with the snuggli still on them. Dh got lots of programming done with our colicky son in the snuggli. Good luck!

19 September, 2006 at 12:41 pmHeidi,
I came and saw you at About Memories & More in Flagstaff. Having a 7 week old, I understand your pain with the Snuggli. Tried out the bjorn, and hated it. It hurt my back so much! Check out http://www.AttachedToBaby.com. They have a variety of pouches and wraps. Angela, the owner has awesome customer service. I was able to check out different sizes and send back what does not work. I personally like the Peanut Shell which is similar to the Hotsling, but has a pocket to hold your goodies. Brooke Shields has even been seen wearing Greer in one. Attached To Baby.com has tons of support too. Email me if you want to use me as a referral.
