Wall Words | Beach Bag
Hello, hello everyone!
It’s Friday! It’s Friday!
Have any big plans for the weekend?
We have a ton of baseball planned over the next few days.
But next week is going to be lazy…and hot…and we are headed to the beach!
I can’t wait.
When I was young, I didn’t like the beach. I was pool girl, all the way.
But now…give me the beach ANYTIME…
In preparation for our day in the sun, I thought it would be fun to update my beach bag a little.
So I grabbed some supplies…
…this awesome new Wall Word – relax – and some acrylic paint in a variety of yellows.
I also grabbed some foam brushes (4 of them, to be exact) & a makeup sponge.
Note: all supplies used for this project can be found at a Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Store near you.
Using a different foam brush for each color yellow, I began painting my word, starting with the darkest yellow on top, and making my way down to the lightest yellow, and then white, on the bottom of my word – creating an ombré effect.
It took me quite a few layers to get the color saturation I wanted.
Here’s my word a little over halfway through my layers.
You can see how the color is getting more and more even as I keep applying paint.
When I was happy with the colors on my word, I grabbed my makeup sponge and started blending the colors into each other.
To do this, I added just a touch of my darkest yellow to my sponge and lightly tapped on the color below it.
Then I did the same with the next yellow down, until I’d blended each color with the shades above and below it.
When I got the ombré effect I was looking for, I grabbed my beach bag and some embroidery thread and simply stitched my word to the side of my bag.
AND I LOVE IT!
It’s exactly what I needed to add some color and pizzazz to my bag.
And, because I added only a few little stitches, I can remove my word any time at all to use in another decor piece!
Thank you so much for taking a look!
I hope I’ve inspired you to use a Wall Word (or maybe 2!) to add some fun to your summer decor…
